Why bother with handwriting ?
With so many people using word processing these days it might be easy to think that the use of handwriting is not important. However handwriting has more significance to us than simply a means of 'getting things down on paper'. It is an art form. It is personal and a creative process- in which we can have pride, ownership and a sense of personal resourcefulness. It is still taught in schools today and whilst it comes easy to some, many students (young and old) have difficulty developing their handwriting. It becomes easier to achieve legible, fluent handwriting when we start to understand the principles underlying the formation and practise of handwriting. If you are a teacher,
assistant or parent helping a child to develop their writing – if you are an individual (whatever your age) wanting
to improve your writing ...
...then you will need to focus on certain aspects of writing: · Posture and Comfort · Formation of the letters · Size of the letters · Slope of the letters · Spacing between letters and words · Position of letters in relation to the base line · Smooth connections between letters · Fluency I have written a guide through each of these aspects in my Handwriting Pocketbook.
